סיפור חיים

Shlomo (Sally) Ausubel was my father's closest brother and friend. They both worked in the family's business in Stuttgart. Sally was a bachelor and a very devoted son to his parents. In October 1938, he was expelled to Poland among other Jews from Germany possessing Polish citizenship. After his expulsion he was living in Poznan waiting for his return to Germany. During his stay there, he was learning some handicrafts, preparing himself for the future, since already by then,  he had made up his mind to emigrate from Germany. Sally corresponded diligently with my Father in Palestine. In his letters he expressed deep concern regarding their Mother who was still living in Stuttgart.

In Summer 1939, Sally was allowed to return to Stuttgart for a short time, to liquidate his businesses being compelled to go back to Poland within a few weeks later. However upon the outbreak of the 2snd World War on September 1st 1939, he became a citizen of a hostile country. Sally was arrested by the police in Stuttgart, upon orders of the Gestapo on September 11th. At first he was incarcerated at a prison near Stuttgart and on September 26th he was transferred to the Buchenwald concentration camp as prisoner no. 6651. All efforts exerted by the remaining family in Stuttgart to liberate sally were in vain. On March 13th 1942, he was transferred again to yet another camp of Ravensbrueck as a prisoner no. 1047 in the category of "Polish Jew". He was registered as a "political prisoner" who passed away on June 26th with no explanation for the reason of death. His urn was sent to his Mother in the "House of Jews" in Tigerfeld and was buried there.  (see memorial page for Anna Ausubel).
